Your Wilmot Wild draw first blood in the 2018 Meredith Cup with a huge win in game 1 on home floor this afternoon. What was a close game after two frames quickly became a runaway in the third as the Wild would outscore the Lakers 9-2 in the final period.
Having never seen each other before the teams were a little tentative out of the gate and played to a 1-1 draw after 20 minutes. Both goalies made some key saves to keep the score close and the low scoring first period could be written off to jitters. Wild's lone goal in the first scored by Sam Dramnitzke.
The Lakers would shake off the bus legs in the second and would start to pour it on. The Boro boys would eventually take a 4-2 lead and then a 5-3 lead and looked to be in control of the game. The Wild were playing flat and gave the impression that they were the team that just rode a bus for 3 hours and not the Lakers. The Wild would get one late in the period to draw to within 1 to close out the second and the Wild settled for a 5-4 deficit heading to the room after 40 mins. Second period goal scorers for the Wild were Kent Radbourne and Tyler Verutis (2).
Not really sure what the coaches said to the Wild players in between the second and third periods but whatever it was it worked. The Wild would go on a 9-2 run to take a convincing and crucial game 1 victory at home. Make your finals score 13-7. Third period goals by Verutis (3), Radbourne (2), Hayden Berger, Adam Zister, Dramnitzke and Braydon Hahn.
There is no rest for the teams as they take the series back to Peterboro for game 2 tomorrow night for a 7pm start. If you missed today's game you can catch the entire contest thanks to JVI at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RofCG4C_Ncg
