Your Wilmot WIld finished the regular season with 6 straight victories to claim the West Division top spot in the Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League. Before their winning streak, the Wild had slipped to 3rd spot and were at risk of dropping further before the team rallied to pull off a league best second half of the schedule. The Wild finished the season in convincing fashion with victories over the Oakville Buzz and Halton Bull Dogs by scores of 10-3 and 19-7 respectively.
With one of the best goals against average and several scorers in the top portion of the league leaders the Wild are poised to make a long run in the playoffs and have their sights set on a return to the Meredith Cup as they did in 2016.
The Wild are set to begin their first round of playoffs on July 2nd, 7PM at the Wilmot Recreation Complex with their opponent still to be determined. The Wild will play either the Halton Hills Bull Dogs or the Caledon Bandits and will know their first round foe after these two teams meet in the final regular season game of the season for both squads on Wednesday night. Game 2 of round 1 would be played either Tuesday July 3 or Wednesday July 4 with game 3 in the best of 5 series being played Thursday July 5 back in Wilmot if necessary.
The Wild will take this week to repair and reload before starting what could be a long summer of lacrosse. Stay tuned for more details on playoff action as it will be posted as soon as it becomes available.
