PHEW! Now that was too close for comfort. The Wild found themselves down early and over two periods to overcome the deficit. With the entire squad showing some jitters in the first period the boys quickly got behind and things didn't look good early.
A couple of power play goals by the home squad and a squeeker at the buzzer got the boys in blue down 4-1 after the first 20 mins. With heads hung low the boys went to the room to regroup. And regroup they did...The Wild's lone goal in the first frame was scored by Luke Finoro
The second period saw the boys come to life with Finoro scoring his second of the game just 30 seconds into the period to bring the score to 4-2. The Warriors quickly answered however with their only goal of the period as the Wild D was stellar and closed the door on any more threats. Second period goals by Finoro, Adam Zister, Tyler Verutis, and Tyler Nagy.
The third period was shaping up to be a barn burner and with both teams playing a hard clean game the fans were in for a treat of finish. The boys came out pumped and potted the first two goals of the frame only to have the Warriors tie it up at 7's. The Wild were able to net a couple more and then withstand the Warrior attack allowing only one more goal to make your final score 9-8. Wild goal scorers in the third were Verutis (2), Hayden Berger and Matthew Wyman.
A good game by the defense when needed and after a shaky first period goaltender Andrew Chenier held the fort the rest of the way.
Back at it tomorrow at the Wilmot Recreation Complex for a 3pm start with these same Warriors and if last nights affair was any indication of how this game will turn out it should be a dandy.
