Well that's the way to start the season off! Knock off the team that eliminated you from players the previous year in dominant fashion. The Wild came out strong and silenced the packed Elora Community Centre from the opening draw send a firm message that they are looking to contend this season.
The Wild opened the scoring just over a minute in to the opening frame and followed it minutes later with the 2-0 marker. The Thistles faught back and scored one of their own before the Wild cranked off two more to take a 4-1 lead to the room after 20 mins. First period goals scored by Kent Radbourne(2), Sam Dramnitzke and Tyler Nagy.
The Wild came out on their heals the Thistles capitalized with two quick ones to start the second frame finding the Wild lead now at only 4-3. The Wild answered with 5 straight goals to take a 9-3 lead before penalty trouble struck. Of the 5 goals that closed out the frame the Thistles scored 4 of them and the Wild lead by a narrow 3 goals, 10-7. Second period scorers were Tyler Verutis (2), Radbourne, Ryan Smart, and Luke Finoro (2).
The third period was all Wild as they stretched their lead to 14-7 with 4 unanswered tallies to start the third. The fellas were on cruise control after that and the defence held strong. The WIld closed out the third in honourable fashion taking this one by a final of 15-9. Third period markers scored by Dramnitzke (2), Hayden Berger, Radbourne and Nagy. A big night for the offence and a big night on the faceoff for Hunter Schmitt who answered the call to stop the flood of Thistle faceoff wins.
A solid first game of the year with much work to do. Congrats on a good start Wildmen...it only goes up hill from here.
