Well that was a heck of a day yesterday in Elora and the coaches couldn't have been happier with the results especially at this early stage of training camp.
In game one of the day the Wild were facing the Point Edward Pacers who finished 8th in season play in 2017 in the OJBLL West division and were a playoff team. The Wildmen jumped out to the lead and added another before the Pacers got on the board. The Wild however bounced back with 2 more before the end of the frame to take a 4-1 lead to the break. Wild goal scorers in the first were Kent Radbourne, Luke Finoroand Ethan Warden with his first and second Jr goals of his young career.
The Wild poured it on in the second frame adding the only three markers of the stanza vaulting the boys out to a 7-1 lead after 20 minutes.Andrew Chenier was solid beetween the pipes holding the Pacers to only 1 goal after 2 periods. Goals by Radbourne, Finoro and Warden.
In the 3rd the Wild didn't back down as the Pacers started to let their frustrations show. The Wild countered their punches with 4 more goals to their 2 to win the 3rd period and take game one of the day 11-3. Talies by Finoro, Radbourne, Warden and Tyler Nagy.
Game two of the day was against the Owen Sound North Stars, 7th place finishers in 2017 and also a playoff team in OJBLL action. With the boys a little gassed after playing only a couple hours before, it was a gritty effort to say the least. The Wild's Tyler Verutis scores the only goals of the first period to give the boys a 1-0 lead at the break.
The second saw the Wild offence wake up a bit and tally three to the Stars 1 to hold a 4-1 lead after two. Reyd Fitton standing tall in the net for the Wild in this one only allowing 1 to this point. Scorers for the boys in blue were Dylan Kuntz, Radbourne and Finoro.
The final period of the day saw the Wild simply holding the fort looking for the sweep and while the offence was held off the board for the first time that day, the Defence and Fitton held solid only allowing one goal by the men from the north and finished this one with a 4-2 victory.
Overall a great day for the Wild and a great confidence booster for both vets and rookies. As coach Rick said after game two, "good job fellas, but still lots of improvements to make". Thanks to Meagan Smart for the action shots.
